Chlorhexidine Gluconate has been around since the 1950’s and was the Golden Rule in Hand Disinfection within the UK and USA.
Many Healthcare Professionals in Human and Veterinary Surgeries have complaints about the drying effect on their skin, which often results in Occupational Dermatitis.
In February 2017 the FDA Drug Safety Communication published a warning that increasingly rare, but serious allergic reactions have been reported with the widely used Chlorhexidine Gluconate (CHG).
In contrast to an alcohol based disinfectant, CHG is absorbed into the skin. Sterillium® is not absorbed into the skin. The alcohol destroys the microorganisms and evaporates. Skincare ingredients in the product help to maintain healthy and well moisturised skin conditions. Therefore it does not make sense to use a CHG based wash as the first scrub in surgery. Remove visible soil from the hands with a mild wash lotion and use Sterillium® for every surgical preparation for the protection of your patients and to maintain healthy skin.
