Locum vets usually earn between $500 (£315) to $600 (£375) per day. Some employers are paying higher rates. Many practices also supply accommodation, a car, and an airfare from within Australia. The tax known locally as “The Backpacker Tax” has changed this year so locum vets, on working holiday visas, now only pay 15% tax on the first $37,000 earned rather than 32%.
