Independent veterinary practices which have joined the corporate world have seen mixed fortunes, according to recent press articles. However, Dick White Referrals seems to have thrived following its shared venture agreement with the Pets At Home Vet Group.
One year on from the announcement that DWR, a longstanding independent Small Animal Specialist Centre, was to become one of four referral practices in the newly developed Pets At Home Vet Group, the organisation is clearly reaping the benefits from increased availability of investment.
The last 12 months have seen the appointment of eight new Specialists across a range of disciplines including Surgery, Neurology, Cardiology, Internal Medicine, Clinical Pathology, Ophthalmology and Anaesthesia.
In order to enhance the service provided by this expanding team of Specialists, significant numbers of new support staff have also been appointed, including a 25% increase in nursing staff.
To address their, and the profession’s, ongoing need for well trained nursing staff, the organisation has recently opened the DWR Academy, offering top quality training courses for veterinary nurses and nursing assistants.
DWR’s Clinical Director, Rob Foale, commented “We are delighted to have been able to increase both the number of professional colleagues employed, and the range of services offered. Inevitably, however, this is very demanding in terms of space and we are therefore about to embark on a major expansion project which will almost double the size of the clinic”.
