As the regulation of animal training and behaviour therapy gets closer and closer the Animal Behaviour and Training Council (www.abtcouncil.org.uk) continues to prepare to occupy the position of regulator. The All Party Parliamentary Group for Animal Welfare ‘(APGAW) are examining the topic and started with a meeting to discuss the issues associated with the matter in November 2016 after years of calls from different sources connected with the sector for regulation to be implemented.
Faith in the ABTC is reflected in the steady stream of hitherto unregulated organisations that represent trainers and behaviourists submitting themselves to the rigorous assessment process and the subsequent growth in the professional registers hosted by ABTC.
Now a registered charity in England and Wales the ABTC is the only legal entity in the UK specifically charged with setting and monitoring the professional standards of training and education for anyone calling themselves an animal trainer or behaviourist.
