Keeping medicines and vaccines at the correct temperature to remain efficacious is no problem in the surgery, but what happens if you need to transport them?
Cars can get very hot in the sun, making them too warm even for medicines with a marketing authorisation of room temperature storage. This is why the BSVA recommends that cars should have refrigerated units for the transportation of pharmaceuticals.
Labcold manufacture a portable carrier that can be plugged in to a 12v car socket as well as mains electricity. It has a temperature range from -5oC to 60oC so can be set to ‘room temperature’ if required on a hot day. Powered by a Peltier cooling system, the carrier is lighter and quieter than compressor driven portable refrigerators and, for extra peace of mind, data loggers are available as an optional extra for precise temperature monitoring.
