Arthroscopy is commonly performed in dogs and now with improved instrumentation and technique cats can also benefit from this minimally invasive approach to investigation and management of common joint disorders:
• Cranial cruciate rupture: Arthroscopy allows debridement of torn ligament fibres and partial meniscectomy or meniscal release.
• Identification of articular cartilage lesions within the elbow and stifle joints; removal of loose cartilage fragments and debridement of areas of cartilage erosion
• Biceps tendon release to decrease medial compartment pressure in cats with elbow dysplasia. Advantages over more traditional arthrotomy include:
• More accurate diagnosis and more precise treatment due to the magnification provided by the arthroscope
• Less painful postoperative recovery
• Earlier return to weight bearing
We offer a full feline orthopaedic, soft tissue and internal medicine referral service.
