Liverpool Veterinary Parasitology Diagnostics (LVPD) offers tests for various exotic tick-born parasitic diseases including Babesia spp. and Ehrlichia canis, and can identify Dermacentor reticulatus and Rhipicephalus sanguineus ticks.
Recent well-publicised cases of autochthonous canine babesiosis demonstrate how pet travel, favourable climate conditions, adoption of foreign rescue dogs and removal of the tick treatment requirement has led to emergence of the parasite and its vectors in endemic foci in the UK. Further geographical spread is expected, highlighting the need for effective diagnostics.
