Southern Counties Veterinary Specialists (SCVS) are very proud to be able to announce that one of their clinicians, Harry Scott, now has not two but three diplomas! As far as we know Harry is the first veterinary surgeon in private practice to become a diplomate and a specialist in three different but overlapping disciplines.
Harry gained the RCVS Diploma in Small Animal Surgery (Orthopaedics) in 1999 and was one of only a handful of veterinary surgeons to achieve this qualification from private practice. Harry has always had a keen interest in neurology as well as orthopaedics having already achieved a Fellowship in Canine Spinal Surgery earlier in his career. When the opportunity arose for him to begin a neurology residency at SCVS in 2012 he did not hesitate to take up the challenge. In 2016 he completed his residency and passed the exams to become a European Diplomate and RCVS Recognised Specialist in Veterinary Neurology.
This year saw the introduction of a new European Diploma in Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. Harry has always believed strongly in the importance of physiotherapy and rehabilitation as an integral part of the management of all orthopaedic and neurological cases at SCVS. In 2009 he undertook training in physical therapy and rehabilitation with the University of Tennessee to become a Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner. Harry has now been recognised as a de facto Diplomate and European Specialist in Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation and is looking forward to the challenges of developing and promoting this fledgling college.
Harry is now not allowed to gain any more qualifications as there is no more room on the business cards!
